Left the station in Dec 95 to go to Synpac
as a production operator. Got a job on days in the development labs in 99.
The company was taken over in 2001 and the dept I worked in was sold and is
now called Angel Biotechnology, based in Cramlington. I carry out chemical
analysis on the things we grow there. The web site is angelbio.com if you fancy
a look.

I have been around a bit since officially leaving Blyth in
1997, I was at Marmara CCGT Power Station in Turkey until April last year when
I moved to the Middle East and took up the station managers job at Umm Al Nar
power station in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The existing plant
is very old like Blyth with 60MW Skoda steam turbines so I feel very much at
home. I expect to be here for some time as the region is proving very good
for International Power

Here's an e-mail from a disappointed man who's photo wasn't
on the web site, "a naa am from the toon, but I've lived in Blyth for
18 years now man!!!" Never mind though someday you might keep me on camera,
maybe in May as I will be attending the reunion.
A few details of Mr Batey for your site. Age 63 -bald, but good looking - not
a bad golfer either! Since leaving the power station I've lived the life of Reilly,
golfing Mon, Wed, Fri and also in the winter league on a Sunday. Captain of the
Seniors for two years, I was also vice chairman on the main committee for three
years, wanting more stress free golfing I'm only the Seniors Secretary now, but
it still keeps me busy arranging matches between the likes of Foxton, Warkworth,
Rothbury, the Hirsel and so on and on.
Once a month I take different rambling clubs i.e. Nestles, Rowntrees, Tyneside,
CHA and HF and any others that get in touch, on historic walks throughout Northumberland
and the Borders. These historic walks I do are also going into a book I'm hoping
to get published very soon, just another 90 pages to go, that about another four
walks.
The wife and I love travelling around the Greek Islands for about four weeks
a year with the odd trip to Goa and the likes. Quite honestly Bob there's not
enough hours in the day, thank God the light nights are coming.

After leaving Blyth, I went to work for Enron as a ctrl room operator at their Wilton plant on Teesside. Enron eventually went into liquidation and the plant was taken over by SembCorp. During my time at Wilton I was seconded onto days as a commissioning operator for various operational projects. I left Wilton in October 2006 to work off shore for Petrofac on the Total owned Gas & oil platform the Alwyn situated in the North North Sea, my roll on the platform is the operation of four gas turbines and the daily running of the platform utilities.
My three children are now young adults, have all done well for themselves, number one is working for the DVLA number two is a Nurse at Wansbeck and my son is in the Royal Navy and is about to join HMS Ocean. Well thats my life since leaving Blyth. To see a picture of the Alwyn press here
